Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and a recent poll on my Instagram stories said that people wanted to see at-home date night ideas. Ask and you shall receive! I’ve put together a list of 15 fun and affordable date night ideas that are not only perfect for Valentine’s Day, but for any time you want to stay home for date night!
15 At Home Date Night Ideas
- Have a Fondue Night
Fondue is fun, romantic, and feels fancy while being budget friendly. Start with a cheese fondue appetizer followed by an oil or broth main course, and end with chocolate for dessert! There are hundreds of recipes on Pinterest you can browse and find what looks good to you – I’ve saved a few to this board if you want to check it out.
2. Mini Golf
Set up a put put course around the house, and make a game night out of it! You can find mini golf sets on Amazon or you can use random objects around the house to create obstacles for your course: pillows, books, shoes, etc. Get creative!
3. At Home Spa Night
Who doesn’t love a spa day? Start by setting the mood with candles, relaxing music, fluffy robes, and pour your favorite spa drinks. Then choose a few of your favorite pampering activities, and do them together! Here are a few ideas to get started:
- Steam facial: This helps to open up your pores and loosen any buildup or dirt for a deeper cleanse and glowy looking skin. To DIY: bring a pot of water to a simmer and (optional) add a couple drops of your favorite essential oils. Pour the water into a bowl, drape a towel over your head and hold your face about 6 inches over the water for 5-10 minutes.
- Face mask: Two of my favorites are the Tula clay mask and the Generation Clay pink clay mask
- Massage: Take turns giving each other back massages – make sure to use lotion or massage oil!
- Bubble bath: Is there anything more relaxing? I love the Dr Teal’s lavender foaming bath – it smells amazing!

4. Indoor Picnic
Picnics are always romantic, even if it’s right in the living room! Create a cozy setup with blankets, pillows, and even a picnic basket to make it authentic. Snack-style food is perfect for this date night: think charcuterie, sandwiches, pasta salad, and chocolate covered strawberries. Don’t forget a bottle of wine!
5. DIY Night: Candle Making
Have a DIY night, and try your hand at candle making! You can order a candle making kit on Amazon – have fun experimenting with different scents, colors, and jars. Not only will you have a fun date night activity, but you’ll also have new candles to burn or to give as gifts.
6. Cocktail Making Competition
Gather your favorite cocktail (or mocktail) ingredients and see who can come up with the best new drink! Pull out the cocktail shakers, glassware options, and of course garnishes to make your drinks fun and creative. Don’t forget to give them a name! Rate each drink on different categories to determine the overall winner. Here are a few category ideas:
- Most unique
- Best tasting
- Best presentation
If you want to feel official, you can download a score card to use!
7. Make Homemade Pizza
Making homemade pizza is always a fun activity! Start with making the dough (it’s easier than you’d think – here is a recipe to follow) and get creative with your toppings. You can even make a heart shaped pizza for Valentine’s Day!
8. Movie Marathon
Dim the lights, pop the popcorn, pull out the blankets & cozy up to a movie night!
9. Blind Wine Tasting
Open a few bottles of wine, but cover the labels so you don’t know which one is which (use a wine bag or something similar.) Try each wine, and tap into your inner sommelier: rate the taste, the aroma, the body, the finish, and your overall impression. You can use a printable score card, or make your own! At the end it will be a surprise to see which wine you liked best.
10. Game Night
Pull out your favorite board games or card games, and have a game night! If you want to try something new, Amazon has tons of couples games that look interesting.
11. Make a Scrapbook
Gather pictures and items from your favorite memories, and make a scrapbook out of them! You can reminisce on all the fun times you’ve had together, and keep adding to the scrapbook each year. It’s a fun activity, but also you’ll have something sentimental to look back on in the future!
12. Play Video Games
Pull out your favorite gaming system, and have a video game date night! My husband got a Nintendo Switch a few months ago, and we have had SO much fun playing together. I love the Mario games, but my favorites are Mario Party or Mario Kart!
13. Cook a 3 Course Cookbook Dinner
Choose a cookbook and pick three courses from it to make together: appetizer/salad, main course, and a dessert. Not only is it fun and romantic cooking together, you’ll have a nice 3 course meal at the end. Set the table, dim the lights, light a candle, and enjoy!
14. Craft Night: Paint & Sip
Wine and paint nights are always popular, so set up your own art class at home! You can grab an acrylic paint set on Amazon, and there are hundreds of free painting classes and tutorials on YouTube. Choose a painting, and see how closely you both can replicate it!
15. Learn a Dance
Clear some space in the living room, and find a dance class on YouTube to try! Salsa dance, swing dance, or rumba are some good ones to try out. Or if you’d rather learn a TikTok dance, that works too 😉
