Babymoon in Punta Cana

March 23, 2024

My husband and I recently got back from our babymoon in Punta Cana, and it was the absolute best trip!! Highly recommend going on a babymoon if you are able to. It was so nice to unplug and relax for a week, enjoying our last vacation before the baby arrives in just 3 months!

We decided on Punta Cana for a few reasons. We knew we wanted to go somewhere tropical where we could spend all day relaxing on the beach, or by the pool. Relaxation was the goal of this trip! It’s also quick and easy to get to Punta Cana from South Carolina, which is nice. We had a short 30 minute flight from GSP to ATL, then a 3ish hour flight from ATL to PUJ. Since I’m pregnant, I wasn’t interested in having a super long flight (or travel day) so it worked out well. Our flight from GSP left around 5am, and we were at the resort around lunch time. We’ve been to Punta Cana a few times so we are familiar with it, and we stayed at one of our favorite resorts that we trust with safety, food quality, and overall experience.

Resorts

I have two resorts to recommend in Punta Cana: Paradisus Grand Cana, and Paradisus Palma Real. We’ve stayed at both, and they are both wonderful options. We stayed at Palma Real back in October (the week I found out I was pregnant!) and we stayed at Grand Cana for this trip. I have written resort reviews for both, I’ll link below if you want more in depth info!

The two resorts are next to each other, and share a beach. Here are a few pros/cons of each:

Paradisus Grand Cana: If you stay at this resort, you get access to the pools, bars, and restaurants at Palma Real, but not the other way around. The rooms at Grand Cana are much bigger (and nicer) and this resort has a kids water park which would be so much fun if you are traveling with kids. The only downside is that you have to take a golf cart to get to the beach. It is walkable, but it would be a pretty long walk (and no ocean view rooms.) They have golf carts running back and forth all day, but sometimes you have to wait for several minutes. You also get free passes to Katmandu theme park when you stay here which has mini golf, games, rides, obstacle courses, and more. It’s a lot of fun!

Paradisus Palma Real: The rooms at Palma Real are smaller, but it’s right on the beach. This resort is kid friendly, but I don’t believe you get access to the water park. There is an adults only section at this resort with an adults only pool and restaurant if you want that option. I recommend booking a reserve room here – the reserve only restaurant was our favorite, especially for breakfast and lunch.

Both resorts have a great atmosphere, good food, things to do, and night time entertainment. Overall my recommendation is to stay at Grand Cana if you are traveling with young kids (for the water park & theme park) and stay at Palma Real otherwise (to be on the beach.)

When to Travel:

If you are pregnant, check with your doctor on when you are able to travel, especially for international trips! My OB said I could fly up until 34-36 weeks I think? I can’t remember exactly. We ended up going during week 23-24 because that’s when it worked out best for our schedules. It was a great time to go! I felt good, had a cute little bump, and wasn’t at the uncomfortable stage of pregnancy yet.

Travel tips for flying while pregnant: Wear compression socks to prevent swelling, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, try to get an aisle seat if you have to pee frequently, bring plenty of snacks in your carry on bag, and wear comfortable clothes/shoes!

I can’t believe that the next time we go on vacation, we will have a baby with us!!! I’m so excited 🙂 We love to travel, and plan to bring the baby along with us on all future trips. I know it will look much different, but we are beyond excited for this next chapter, and to make memories as a family of 3!
