Recipe: Homemade Soft Pretzel Bites

February 17, 2020

One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is test out new recipes, and since we recently got an air fryer I am learning that there is a whole new world of possibilities! These soft pretzel bites are my latest creation and they turned out SO good!! Pretzel bites are the perfect snack, and great for a crowd – just set out some cheese dip, spicy mustard, or Nutella to dip them in! If you want to make a sweet version, just skip the salt and coat them in cinnamon and sugar. You really can’t go wrong!

Ingredients:
  • 3.5 cup all purpose flour
  • 1.5 cup warm water
  • 1 packet dry active yeast
  • 2 tbs sugar
  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • salt
Directions:
  • Add yeast to warm water & let it sit for 5 minutes
  • Add sugar and stir to combine
  • Add flour into a large mixing bowl and make a well in the center – then pour in yeast mixture
  • Use a rubber spatula (or your hands) to mix the yeast mixture & flour together
  • Knead the dough by hand or with a KitchenAid mixer (using the dough hook) until it forms a ball. Dough should be tacky, but not stick to your hands
  • On a floured surface, divide dough into 6 pieces and roll them out into 1″ ropes
  • Cut each rope into 1″ bite size pieces
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil and once boiling, slowly add baking soda. Reduce to a simmer
  • Place pretzel bites in water for 30 seconds, flipping halfway through (I do about 15 at a time)
  • Once removed from water, place pretzel bites on a plate covered in paper towel & sprinkle with plenty of salt (you can use pretzel salt but I used pink sea salt)
  • Spray air fryer rack with cooking spray of choice, and bake at 390 for 5 minutes (working in batches)
  • You can also bake in the oven at 425 for 5-8 minutes (line baking sheet with parchment paper)
  • Enjoy!

Notes:
  • Add baking soda to water very slowly – it will cause the water to bubble up and overflow if you add it all at once
  • Dough can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days (store it before the baking soda bath step.)

Those look amazing! Do you make any dips to go with them or just eat plain? I’ve never had them before! Hehee! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you!! I like to dip them in spicy mustard, but they’re also good plain! You’ll have to let me know what you think if you make them!

    Bonjour
Merci pour la recette, j’aimerais savoir si le bicarbonate est indispensable car je n’en ai pas et je voulais tester la recette.

This receipt is amazing! I think it’s better than pretzels at the mall! This has become a family favourite. We especially like to dip in cheese sauce, SO GOOD!

This is one of my go-to game day recipes! We have found that 4 minutes in the air fryer is sufficient. We love to eat with warm cream cheese- reminds us of the mall when we were younger. Thank you!!!
